My Foods Alive! Quite Literally.

My mom went to a Veg + Brew fest a few weeks ago in Indiana. I wish I would have gone with her because she had so much fun! Since I live so far away she took my grandma along with her. My mom, being the person she is collected samples and sheets of information during her adventure. Instead of keeping them for herself she packed them up and sent them to me. What a nice care package, a bunch of vegan mumbo-jumbo. I don’t know why she does this, but it happens more often than you would think. On this occasion, she sent a 5lb package of paper and body wash samples. LOL yes, body wash I don’t know either. You may be thinking “oh she’s just exaggerating to tell a story.” Well, you’re wrong this is no exaggeration here. Although, it seems like junk I love getting packages from her! She always put the most random and useful items in there (among the other not so useful things). This package’s golden gem was a  Foods Alive catalog.

I was so excited about the catalog I did some research and found Foods Alive is from Angola, Indiana. MY HOME SWEET HOME! Not quite, but Angola is close enough to call home. Their location made me instantly more interested because I love supporting my local and home economy. Wanting to learn more I did some searching and found they had an ambassador program. This program sounded like something that would be right up my alley.

I’m partnering with Food Alive to share with you all deliciously creative organic, gluten-free, and vegan items! Four times each year I will be trying products and writing about what I think about them.


Flax Crackers

There are two main types of flax seeds, brown and golden (or yellow). Both are very similar in nutrient profile. Foods Alive crackers are made with golden flax seeds. Flax seeds have a rich omega-3 fatty acid content as well as dietary lignans and fiber.

“Lignans are classified as a dietary fiber that are a type of phytoestrogen. They have hormonelike plant structures with weak estrogen-like effects. Lignans are metabolized in the human intestine by friendly bacterial flora and are absorbed and circulated in the bloodstream. Here they exert powerful antioxidant effects that inhibit the process of atherosclerosis, cut LDL cholesterol, [potentially lower the risk of] certain types of cancers—specifically the hormone-related breast and prostate cancers—and can contribute to increased brain function much like estrogen replacement therapy.” Janet Bond Brill, PhD, RD, LDN, CSSD.

The Mexican harvest flavor is one of the original 3 flavors. You can eat them with dips, salsa, or top a salad with them.


Foods Alive dressings are cold-pressed and full of omega-3 fatty acids. In these dressings, the omega-3’s are from hemp oil and chia seeds, a great omega-3 option for the plant-based eaters. According to the American Heart Association, the recommendation for omega-3 fatty acids is 500mg each day. Omega-3 are a healthy fat that can aid in heart health.

Foods Alive Superfood Dressing

1 Tbsp of flaxseeds provides 1,597 mg alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), the main type of omega-3 in flax seeds (1).

Sweet and Sassy Organic Superfood Dressing 

In the sweet + sassy dressing hemp oil is paired with apple cider vinegar, coconut sugar, celery seed, and chia seed. It is a refreshing twist on oil and vinegar.

I like using this dressing on a classic bed of greens with lots of veggies.

Sweet Mustard Superfood Dressing

The sweet mustard dressing is flax oil + Dijon mustard with a little coconut sugar to make it sweet. If you’re looking for a healthier honey mustard this is calling your name. Sweet mustard is good on everything!

Seeds in protein powder form!? Sure thing! Hemp seeds have great benefits, so many that Oh My Nutrition food index has an article about hemp seeds. I like adding the powder to smoothies!

Maca Powder

Honestly, I didn’t know much about maca powder before purchasing. The things I did hear were only good things. It has vitamins and minerals and allegedly helps with the endocrine system. Trying maca powder by its self isn’t a good idea, but throw it in a smoothie and you won’t know it’s there.


FREEBIE: Moringa Hot Chocolate

My package came with what might have been my favorite item from the box. This hot cocoa mix only has FOUR ingredients, two of which are cacao and moringa. Moringa has a strong flavor but with cocoa, it’s hardly noticeable. Add this to a glass of warm milk for a super packed, super drink that will keep you warm.
